Oxford

Barley

  • Medium-late maturity barley with high yield potential and wide adaptation
  • Similar relative maturity to Baudin and Gairdner
  • Excellent head retention
  • Above average test weight and excellent grain colour (Minolta L)
  • Excellent straw strength and resistance to lodging
  • Low screenings
  • Resistant to powdery mildew, net blotch (net form) and leaf rust
  • High malt extract - malt evaluation trials currently underway.

Oxford is a top-yielding, short-strawed, medium-long season variety with broad adaptability and excellent resistance to lodging. It is a photoperiod sensitive variety that remains in a vegetative state during the peak frost periods and responds to increasing day length in late September / early October. Oxford responds well to early planting and is suitable for main season planting.

Sowing Rate

A formula can be initiated to calculate sowing rates – taking into account target plant density, germination percentage, seed size and establishment rates. Example: 1000 seed weight in grams = 35;Target plant population / sq metre = 140; Establishment % = 80;Germination % = 90. Sowing Rate = 35 x 140 / 100 / (0.8 x 0.9) Sowing Rate = 68 kg/ha
