FUZE (LM581) is the newest and highest performing diploid annual ryegrass from Barenbrug. Fuze offers farmers excellent winter growth as well as huge total pasture yields over the entire growing season. Fuze is suitable for grazing, hay or silage. Grow more home-grown feed with Fuze.

Key features

  • Diploid annual ryegrass
  • Late flowering (+14 days to Tetila)
  • Quick to first grazing
  • High winter production
  • Exceptional total pasture yield

Key benefits

  • Substantially more home-grown feed than older varieties such as Tetila (10−15% higher yielding)
  • Improved winter growth for feed when you need it most
  • Holds quality for longer, Fuze gives the opportunity for later hay/silage and makes the most of late season rain or irrigation
  • Diploid quality – finer stems and leaves compared with most tetraploid varieties for quicker dry-down times and greater tiller density

Agronomy and management

Sowing rate - For best results sow Fuze at 20−30 kg/ha into a clean, weed-free seed-bed with adequate soil fertility.

Sowing depth - Ryegrass can be sown at 5−20mm, however if sowing in a mix with clover, try to keep the sowing depth within 5−10mm.

Fertiliser - For best performance, soil fertility and acidity problems should be amended prior to sowing. It is usually best to plant ryegrass with 60−100 kg/ha of MAP or DAP at sowing to provide some starter phosphorus and nitrogen.

Weeds - Ideally, reducing the weed burden of a paddock should commence in the season prior to sowing by reducing the seedset of annual weeds with either a herbicide control or silage. Additionally a knock-down herbicide (such as glysophate) is the best applied prior to sowing if weeds are present.

Grazing - Ensure the fist grazing doesn’t take place until the plants are sufficiently anchored. Use your hand to pull on the plants at grazing height, if the plants remain in the ground, then grazing can commence. Ideally, ryegrass should be rotationally grazed for optimal growth. To do this, graze at the 2.5−3 leaf stage, then let the plants rest again to the 2.5−3 leaf stage to recharge the carbohydrate levels to enable better growth rates.

Performance

Fuze has been extensively performance tested throughout Barenbrug trial site network and has shown consistently high performance. Fuze is the highest performing annual ryegrass for total yield for the combined multi-year, multi-site trial analysis.

Southern Trial Performance

Combined Howlong (NSW) and Lardner (VIC) multi-site annual ryegrass trial results for total yield (kg DM/ha) 2013−2018.

Northern Trial Performance

Gatton (QLD) annual ryegrass trial results for total yield  (kg DM/ha) 2013−2016 and 2018.
